Abram's first day of preschool...

was Wednesday. For those that know Abram, I mean really know him, know who he is. He is not your typical 3 year old boy or for that matter your typical kid at all. He is...well we like to say just ABRAM. We have talked to him about going to preschool for over a year, prepping him in a sense. We have gone to numerous events held at the school, met with his teacher many times and most recently read a book about preschool titled, "Llama Llama Misses Mama." This little llama is exactly who Abram is...except Abram is a human and not a llama...So he wakes up Wednesday morning...ready to go,

eats breakfast...excited to go,

gets in the van...happy to be going,

we get there...he's NOT having it, one bit!

He's crying, pleading, begging for me to not leave him. We go in and he is clinging to me for dear life. We go to the activity table...still acting like a leach...circle time...he wont even sit on his square...by now I am feeling terrible and think him and I should just leave together and go out to breakfast but know that would result in "giving up." So as circle time ends and they are going to paint his teachers suggests I leave...LEAVE!?!?! What if he is disruptive I say...she says "I will call you if he is." Ok, ok I leave and race home, which is a block away and wait by the phone...and wait and wait. At 10:05 I tell Steven we should go get Abram...but he's not done till 10:30...so we go get a coffee and wait in front of the school. I see kids emerge from the school and I run to greet...the happiest little Abram I've ever seen.

He LOVED it and his teacher said he cried for about 3 minutes after I left...THREE minutes? That's it?!?!?! He told me about his friend Natalie who shared the paint with him and how he can't wait for next Wednesday...and his teacher said once he stopped crying he never stopped talking...now *that's* my Abram I love so much!

I just wanted to stop by and tell you that I appreciated the advice you gave me on my blog when I was so upset the other day. It was wonderful to feel so embraced by friends (and strangers) who helped me to understand what was important.

PS you have a beautiful family! I can't believe that preschool is just starting in June...ours just ended.

Well played Mom!! I'm so glad you let him brave it on his own. I know it was rough for you...I mean him...but man what a blast he had. Looks like he can conquer the world now...rats...

I am so proud of that little guy! I really think Miss Jessica is a good fit for him. And you are right, Llama, Llama is just like our little bubby! So happy to see him smiling at the end of his school day. Can't wait to hear how it goes on Wednesday.

I remember when I taught kindergarten this always happened. I am so glad he loved it. You were so worried and concerned. Next time your heart will break when he says, "Mom I can walk in by myself." Ha! Ha!
