When I'm called to duty, God wherever flames may rage,
give me strength to save a life whatever be its age.
Help me to embrace a little child before it is too late,
or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout,
and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me,
to guard my every neighbor and protect his property.
And if according to your will I have to lose my life,
please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife.
Last night was the annual Fergus Falls Fire Department Ladies Party.
It's to thank the wives for putting up with their husbands leaving them at a drop of a hat to fulfill their call of duty...even if that means leaving them at Applebee's and having to get a ride home from their server...lol.
It was a very nice party and Steven and I are very thankful and honored to be apart of such an amazing community of men and women. There were many generations of men, some from the same family. It's incredible to see sons and grandsons following in the footsteps of the men who have showed them such bravery. Steven offered the prayer for our meal last night and I was touched at what a kind and gentle man he is with such a servants heart. I am proud of my husband and the many men he serves with.
